Thailand – Kärcher opens Chonburi branch
Kärcher Retail Limited officially opened its new branch in Chonburi on 26 August 2016. Kärcher is currently the world’s leading provider of efficient, resource-conserving cleaning systems. By the end of 2015, the company had set a new sales record totalling EUR 2.22 billion and had 11,333 employees in 60 countries.
Thailand – Schaeffler Group has officially inaugurated its first production facility in Chon Buri, targeting customers across Southeast Asia and Oceania
Schaeffler inaugurated the new EUR 20 million (THB 778 million) plant at the Hemaraj Chonburi Industrial Estate II on 13 November 2016. The 55,000-square-metre facility had a pilot launch in February, making four automotive components: clutch release systems, clutch pressure plates and discs, mechanical and hydraulic belt tensioners, and synchroniser rings. Its annual production totals 500,000 to 1 million pieces of each product type. The new plant is the company’s fifth manufacturing facility in Asia, along with three in South Korea and one in Vietnam. An engineering centre has also been set up to cooperate closely with its R&D unit in Yokohama, Japan. (Bangkok Post, 13 November 2016).
WACKER Expands Singapore Technical Center and Opens New Laboratory for Food Applications
Wacker Chemie AG has expanded its range of services in Asia with today’s official opening of a new food laboratory at its Technical Center in Singapore. The regional competence center now has a newly created laboratory dedicated to innovative food ingredients, dietary supplements and gumbase applications, e.g. for fat-free desserts, egg-free bakery goods, coconut milk powder without caseinate, vegan meat flavors and highly bioavailable curcumin. The new laboratory enables WACKER to provide its customers in Asia with even better service as well as support for the development of novel, tailored products in the fast-growing market for food solutions.
Evonik starts construction of second methionine complex in Singapore
Evonik Industries plans to build a second world-scale plant for the production of the amino acid DL-methionine in Singapore are fully on schedule. The company marked the official start of construction with a symbolic ground-breaking ceremony today, officiated by Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Singapore Deputy Prime Minister & Coordinating Minister for Economic and Social Policies. The complex will have an annual production capacity of 150,000 metric tons and is expected to become operational in 2019, with investment costs of more than half a billion euros. Evonik sells DL-methionine under the brand name MetAMINO®.
DHL Express bolsters regional trade with EUR 85 million South Asia Hub
DHL Express today launched the EUR 85 million DHL South Asia Hub, a 24-hour express hub facility located within Changi Airfreight Centre (CAC) at Singapore Changi Airport. The 23,600 sqm facility is outfitted with the industry’s first fully automated express parcel sorting and processing system in South Asia, and is set to boost its operational capacity and efficiency – offering speedier deliveries for customers in the region.

German controls and automation manufacturer Pepperl+Fuchs marks another milestone in Singapore with the opening of its newly established five-story Global Distribution Center in Jurong. With an investment of over S$65 million, spanning an area of 17,700sqm, the state-of-the-art center serves as the central warehouse from which Pepperl+Fuchs Group provides a worldwide distribution of more than 15,000 products.
